Celebrating Safe and Caring Schools Week

October 5 - 9, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Schools in the Durham Catholic District School Board strive to create positive school climates where all members of the school community feel safe, comfortable, and accepted.  Each year, the Durham Catholic District School Board celebrates Safe and Accepting Schools Week to further promote responsibility, respect, civility and academic excellence in a safe learning and teaching environment.  The theme for Safe and Accepting Schools Week incorporates our year-long theme of Love.

Listed below are the themes for each day of the week:

Monday

The Gift of Love

Tuesday

The Love Within Us

Wednesday

The Love Among Us

Thursday

Love for the World

Friday

AFuture Full of Love

Each year, we begin practicing our emergency response drills during this week so that we are well prepared should an emergency situation ever occur.  For many years, schools have practiced six fire drills annually.  As part of the 2016 Police/School Board Protocol, schools must now also practice Lockdown, Hold and Secure and Bomb Threat Response drills.  By the end of October, our school will endeavor to practice the first of each Emergency Response Drills (Lockdown, Hold and Secure, three Fire Drills and a Bomb Threat Response).

On our school’s website, there is an electronic version of your child’s agenda that describes each of our emergency responses and the role that you, as a parent can play in supporting these responses. Please take some time during Safe and Accepting Schools week to review these agenda pages with your child to further reinforce the importance of taking all of our drills seriously.
